I haven't decided what is the right career for me

Combine information about yourself and the world of work

Look at all the information you have gathered so far and try to identify two or three possible career ideas.

You need to check out the following criteria:
  • do you meet the basic entry requirements?
  • Are you prepared for  further training - both in terms of effort and cost?
  • Do you have evidence of the sorts of skills required in that occupation?
  • Do you have  relevant experience? If not, could you spend some time work-shadowing or talking to someone in that occupation?
  • Is the occupation competitive to enter? What other experience or qualifications would enhance your chance of success?
  • Are there  application deadlines for courses, clearing houses or specific employers? If you have missed the deadline for this year, how can you use the time until next year?

Add this information to the Career options grid and review everything that you have added so far.

  • Are there any other options that match your requirements?
  • Does nothing seem to fit?

If you are still unsure about your career path, check out your ideas with someone who knows you or visit a careers adviser.

If you have identified some options, move on to Develop a Plan of Action
