Second interview
A second interview will focus on any doubts or weaknesses that were raised
in the first interview and may discuss your performance at any of the
assessment centre tasks. Your motivation and ability to fit into the organisation
will also be tested. There may be a panel of several interviewers from
different disciplines. It may be an hour-long, one-to-one with the department
head or it could be an all day affair or meeting with different people.
It could involve assessment, or possibly, you could be asked to make a
presentation - it depends on the skills needed for the job.
General rules for second interviews
- Be interested. At this stage the company is assessing how you fit
into the organisation. Those who are motivated and enthusiastic will
get the job offer.
- Second interviews are usually held at the company's premises. Find
out as much as possible about the company and its culture. You need
to be sure you will be happy working there.
- Be prepared for more in-depth questioning. If possible, choose different
examples to illustrate your skills and abilities from the ones you used
at the first interview.
- Prepare beforehand the key points you want to communicate about yourself
in relation to the job. Incorporate information you learned about the
company and the job at the first interview so as to show that you have
thought about the role and how you will be able to contribute.
